Massage
Therapy Competency Standards
:
Regulated since 1919 Massage
Therapists have been providing
safe, ethical care to
the Ontario public for
83 years. To become a
Massage Therapist today,
a candidate must complete
training in the areas
of massage theory, anatomy,
physiology, pathology,
kinesiology, hydrotherapy
and remedial exercise
related to massage therapy
treatment.
Training also includes
supervised clinical experience.
After graduating, a candidate
must pass a certification
examination before they
can register with the
College of Massage Therapists
of Ontario (the College)
and use the title Massage
Therapist.
Massage Therapists (MT),
Registered Massage Therapist
(RMT) and its equivalents
in other languages are
protected titles and can
only be used by individuals
who have fulfilled the
educational and registration
requirements and have
passed the College’s
certification exams.
The
College of Massage Therapists
of Ontario :
The College of Massage
Therapists of Ontario
(the College), is a provincial
regulatory agency that
exists to protect the
public interest and to
regulate the profession.
The College ensures the
public’s safety
by enforcing the competency
and quality of care provided
by Massage Therapists
through provincial Standards
and Regulations. The College
is directed by a Council
of elected professional
members and members of
the public appointed by
the Ministry of Health.
The College and its Council
administer the Regulated
Health Professions Act,
1991 and the Massage Therapy
Act, 1991 as they pertain
to the practice of the
profession.
